I recently returned from four days at The Photo Managers (TPM) Conference in Columbus, Ohio with “my people” (hundreds of photo managers from around the country and the world) . We nerded out about the newest photo management software, the most efficient workflows and the best products to showcase our client’s photos.
This was my tenth conference and each year I am amazed at the growth of our industry and the genuine community and collaboration among photo managers.
In the spirit of sharing, here are three tools I learned about that you can try yourself:
FACIAL RECOGNITION FOR YOUR PET
If you’re an animal lover like me, you’ll LOVE this. You can now tag your pet by name in apple Photos on your Mac or your iPhone and find all the photos of your pet in one click.
Here’s how to use it on your phone:
Find any photo of your pet
Open the information panel (blue circle with i on bottom of screen)
Click the circular profile image of your pet and type in your pet’s name. I’ll use my dog Ruby as an example.
Then you can click on Ruby’s profile circle and choose “All photos of Ruby”. Magic!
Pro tip: If you don’t love your pet’s profile picture, find one you do, click on your pet’s circular profile image, and choose “Make Key Photo”
STREAM YOUR HOME MOVIES ON YOUR TV JUST LIKE NETFLIX
I’ve helped dozens of you reading this newsletter to digitize your camcorder tapes and movie reels, but are you actually watching them? Now it’s so much easier! Projector is a video streaming service that allows you to watch your own family videos and photo slide shows on your TV as easily as you would watch a movie on Netflix. You can invite family in other locations to watch too. I just set up my own Projector channel and my family and I are loving watching my daughter’s wedding video and old home movies on our large screen TV.
CLEAN UP YOUR PHOTOS LIBRARY (WITHOUT MY HELP)In 2017 50% of photos were taken on a Smartphone*. In 2024 93% of photos are taken on a Smartphone! (*source: Flickr). If the thousands of photos and videos on your iPhone is causing you anxiety, try Ollie, a fun app that uses AI to clean up duplicates and chooses the best of a series of photos (with without the help of a photo manager!) (Show photo Ollie app and link to app)
These are just a few of the things I learned at The Photo Managers conference, I’ll share more next time. Let me know if you try them!
